Homemade Donuts by Miss Renaissance

Doughnuts are hot, HOT right now. And don’t even get me started on the new Cronut mania!! However, when all is said and done, nothing tastes better than a deliciously warm & fresh homemade doughnut (especially when Nutella is involved!)- in my humble opinion at least. These doughnuts are perfect – they do require a bit of work and patience, but trust me – you won’t be able to stop eating them (I ate 5 in one sitting here!!) Make these babies on a lazy Sunday morning for brunch…you’ll definitely find yourself in a cozy, food-coma induced nap situation soon thereafter.

Weekly Color Inspiration {Lime Green Magic}

Lime Green Manicure by Miss Renaissance

{On all fingers, except index fingers – Essie the More the Merrier. On index fingers – OPI Goldeneye.}

Lime Green. It’s a color I normally steer clear of. But when I saw this fresh color by Essie, I suddenly felt the urge to give it a try…and I actually quite like it for Summer. It reminds me of a chilled lime margarita. Oh, and of course I couldn’t resist adding a little gold glitz to the mix!

Cheers & have a great weekend, Lovelies!

BBQ-ing with {Chef Zoe Schor}

Ada Street Chicago for Starving Artist IMG_1732-2 IMG_1735-3 IMG_1740-4 IMG_1749-5 IMG_1782-7

You all know how much I LOVE to eat, right? I. Love. It. Chicago is a huge food town, and Ada Street happens to be one of my favorite restaurants. So when I recently got the opportunity to chat with Ada Street’s Chef Zoe Schor I was insanely excited and honored! Chef Zoe honed her skills at incredible restaurants such as Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and Todd English’s Beso before joining the Ada Street team as executive chef. Her cooking is a blend of classical and contemporary styles & the result is an approachable, seasonal and diverse menu that always hits the spot for me.

I was able to watch Chef Zoe re-create a delicious dish she previously cooked for a Summer event at Ada Street last year. In honor of the restaurant’s patio opening – complete with a ping-pong table, astro turf, and a custom painted garage door by local Chicago street artist Ruben Aguirre – Zoe dished up slow-grilled bbq pork shoulder on top of corn sopes, topped off with a fresh grilled corn salad. YUM! It’s a perfect blend of perfectly seasoned & tender meat with a fresh and slightly spicy topping that harmoniously comes together with the earthy support of the corn sope base. I could eat this little dish all summer long!

The great news is that Chef Zoe will dish up this exact recipe at next weekend’s Starving Artist Party! She’ll be on-site, preparing bbq pork sopes for guests all night. Now that’s exciting..and even more reason for you Chicago peeps to join us at Starving Artist! Tickets are still available, but selling out fast, so get yours soon! And if you haven’t been to Ada Street yet, what are you waiting for?!!

Currently Baking {Coconut-Buttermilk Pound Cake}

Coconut-Buttermilk Pound Cake by Miss Renaissance IMG_1592-2 IMG_1656-6 IMG_1674-7 IMG_1695-10

Summa, Summa, Summatime…coconut somehow screams Summer to me! It’s not only one of my favorite ingredients to use/eat in baked goods, it also makes me long for hot days spent on a tropical beach somewhere. Toasted coconut used in a deliciously rich Pound Cake is basically perfect to me!! This recipe is easy & fool-proof. The cake comes out moist & fluffy (thanks to the addition of buttermilk) with exactly the right amount of sweet-coconutty richness. NOM! I could personally devour this entire loaf in about 2 days!

Bake it, have a slice (or two) with your morning coffee/tea and dare to tell me you’re not instantly smitten. Find the recipe here.
