Life’s A Journey

Pure Potential

Happy Friday, Lovelies! Are you excited for the weekend ahead? I definitely am! The much-anticipated Starving Artist Party is this Saturday (tickets are still available if you want to join the fun!), and Sunday has me getting on a plane to British Columbia, Canada for a week-long meditation retreat in the mountains of Whistler! I’ll be meditating & learning with like-minded spirits…all led by Deepak Chopra. I know I don’t normally share this side of my life here on the blog, but if you’ve ever been curious about meditation, you should give it a shot. It’s a life changing habit and Deepak Chopra is one of the true masters out there!

I’ll be using this upcoming week as a “digital detox” of sorts as well…so I’ll be taking a break from blogging for the week. Don’t miss me too much, k?! I’ll still be instagramming though (can’t quit that one), so follow my journey here if you’d like!

Have a wonderful week and a happy 4th of July!!

Sydney Fringe

Fringe by Flannel. Miss Renaissance.

Ohhh yes, my seemingly endless (and shameless) plug for my favorite Australian fashion labels hereby continues. This insane fringe jacket by Flannel is one of my favorite pieces ever (it’s sadly sold out now)! I love the intricate floral embroidery, the soft double-layered silk, and the fringe is so playful and bohemian. It’s definitely a statement piece on its own, so I paired it with simple black denim, a basic tank and my current favorite pair of flat boots (they’re insanely comfy!)

Alison shot this look on me right before we went to see Flannel’s Runway Show during Fashion Week in Sydney…it was fun to support the designer by wearing one of Flannel’s pieces to the show!

Happy Monday, Lovelies! For some reason I’ve been waking up extra hungry the past few days…ya know, when you crave a hearty, full-blown breakfast instead of the usual coffee & granola/yoghurt combo?! I have several go-to places here in Chicago when my big breakfast/brunch mood strikes, and I recently found the same type of gem while visiting LA.

Zinque in Venice is now one of my favorite places for delicious coffee (they use La Colombe beans) & hearty sandwiches/pastries. Their prosciutto-mozzarella-tomato panini is amazing, and so are their seasonal fruit pies (I had their pear pie last time, and as you can see in the picture – it’s a little piece of art.) The vibe & decor is decidedly simple & cool with an industrial edge. A few whimsical pieces, such as the vintage  piano, keep the interior from feeling too cold though. If I lived in the Venice area, Zinque would definitely be my go-to spot for casual meetings, laptop-time away from home, or even for an evening glass of wine. They have a nice selection of regional and international wine & beer, and I hear their light dinner menu is yummy & fresh as well.

If you’re ever in Venice, check it out and tell me what you think!

Beautiful Bondi

There’s so much wild beauty in this scenery, it’s hard to explain with words. Alison and I took a break from the madness of Australia Fashion Week for the afternoon and walked from Bronte to Bondi Beach. The dramatic sandstone cliffs, carved over the centuries by the power of the ocean, provided a perfect backdrop for a few photos. If you’re ever in Sydney, this walk is an absolute must! And once you arrive in Bodi, tuck into one of the many cafes/restaurants for a sunset cocktail.

Being back in Chicago now, I already miss this place…and can’t wait to return.

Have a great weekend, Lovelies!

Denim Overalls {The Comeback}

With Jet-lag in full effect, I kept my outfit for Day 1 of Sydney Fashion Week comfortable and playful. Denim overalls have recently made a re-appearance in the world of fashion, and I couldn’t be happier about it! I used to love the trend back in Junior High…and it feels just as right these days as it did back then. Silly? Yes. Slightly ridiculous even? Maybe….but paired with a fun tee and my favorite metallic heels I felt ready to take on the runway shows & have fun. What’s your opinion of the denim overall renaissance? Yay or nay??

Fashion Week Australia Runway Report {Flannel}

Today was a blur of activity…a rainy Sydney morning made for an “interesting” time trying to catch a cab over to the shows. Once we arrived at Carriageworks, everything seemed delayed by at least 30 minutes….oh, the wonderful and crazy world of fashion!

My favorite show of the day was Flannel’s bohemian dream world. The color palette was almost entirely off-white, with amazingly intricate beading, embroidery and layering. The models wore almost not make-up, and the hair was kept to a minimum as well. While these types of flowy & natural looks may not be for everyone, I found the collection very refreshing and purely feminine after seeing so many structured & strongly colored/patterned pieces on the runways the past few seasons.

I was able to snag a spot in the photographer’s pit for this show, so I took advantage of the good view & recorded a little video of the show finale with my iPhone…I’ll make sure to post it as soon as it’s uploaded (long process….) For now, it’s off to sleep for me…gotta rise & shine early for more shows (and a little vintage shopping) tomorrow.

Off to Aussieland we go…..

Off to Australia!

I can’t contain my excitement any longer! As we speak, I’m on a (looooong) flight to Australia for Fashion Week in Sydney! Yay! I’ve been a huge fan of Australian fashion for years, so this trip is a dream come true. My friend Alison is coming along, and we’ll be attending as many shows as we can fit into our crazy schedules…along with local shopping, eating, and general fun-having in one of the world’s most stunning cities.

I’ll be updating you guys on what’s happening on the Sydney Runways as often as I can!  Also, keep checking my Instagram for all of our shenanigans.
