I love Instagram…it’s such a fun way to snap, share, and admire little tid-bits of people’s lives. If we aren’t yet, we should follow each other, I always love making new friends – I’m missrenaissance, look me up. I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday Weekend! I’ll be running around town getting some last minute errands done & packing for my trip to NYC next week.

Design Spotlight {Lulu Frost}

Lulu Frost

Lulu Frost

I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with the fantastic costume jewelry by Lulu Frost. I have been amazed by this company & its creations since its very beginnings. I met Lisa Salzer – founder and creative genius behind Lulu Frost – way back in 2004 at a Trunk Show here in Chicago. Lisa is an absolute sweetheart, and her love for combining different vintage pieces (such as old brooches or belt buckles) and creating new jewels from them in the most unexpected manner is amazing! Many of the pieces are absolute statements on their own (a perfect example is the stunning necklace pictured above!)

I’ll have the pleasure to view the Spring 2013 Lulu Frost Presentation in New York next week during Fashion Week – and I’m so excited to share the pictures & the experience with you then!!

P.S.: The company has come a long way since the start. A fun collab with J.Crew is happening as we speak – check it out Here.

Color Inspiration {Market Fresh}

I recently got the most beautiful little basket of fresh figs at the local market. They were perfectly ripe…sweet, juicy and so delicious I ate them all on their own – nothing added whatsoever. I now wish I’d taken a picture of them, but the above image (via Pinterest) will have to do. This week’s color inspiration is an ode to those beautiful figs (yes, I’m so obsessed with food, it even inspires my manicures!)

Miss Renaissance Roasted Tomatoes

Miss Renaissance Roasted Tomatoes

I’m fresh off the plane from my amazing Photography Workshop with Aran Goyoaga in Whistler, B.C., and couldn’t wait to give you a little sneak of the wonderful things I saw, shot & ate! Over the weekend, we visited the Whistler Farmers Market. The fresh produce was stunning….especially all the different tomato varietals (yay for tomato season!) So here are a few shots of the tomatoes fresh off the farm, as well as simply roasted and ready to serve. All you need for this “recipe” is the most beautiful and fresh tomatoes you can find, drizzle them with a bit of olive oil, add some salt, pepper, and your favorite herbs (thyme and rosemary are my faves) and put them in the oven at 350-375F for about half an hour. Voila! Sweet, juicy deliciousness!!

My Sound of Music

{Dress – Joie, Belt – Anthropologie (old, but THIS one would look great as well), Wedges – Juicy Couture (old), Bag – Proenza Schouler, Sunglasses – Oliver Peoples, Bracelets – Cartier, Winifred Grace, Jennifer Fisher (old).}

Yes, I’m German. Yes, I love fresh Mountain Air. But I hope I don’t dissappoint you when I say that you’ll probably never see me skip through an Alpine Mountain Scene wearing traditional German garb with braids in my hair.

This outfit/braid combo is as close to “The Sound of Music” as I’ll likely ever get. Let’s say it’s my Summer-in-the-city version. This floral maxi dress is comfortable and easy to wear, and the rich color palette will easily transition into Fall – major bonus, right?!

Color Inspiration {Heavy Rotation}

Miss Renaissance Manicure Color Inspiration

{On all fingers – Essie Turquoise & Caicos. On tips – Deborah Lippmann Superstar.}

Essie’s amazing teal shade – Turquoise & Caicos – has been on super heavy rotation for me this Summer. It’s fun, versatile, easy to apply, and just one of my favorite colors in general! Instead of adding gold glitter tips this time (one of my fave combos, as you already know), I added a glittery shade of copper by Deborah Lippmann. Rose gold, copper, and any shade of “penny” will be a major Fall trend…I’m just making the sloooooowww transition, starting with my finger tips.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend – enjoy the sun, take a stroll through the park or along the beach if you’re lucky! I’ve safely made it to beautiful Whistler, B.C. and am ready to spend the weekend snapping photos, cooking, soaking up new knowledge and exploring in the mountains.

S’mores…to the next Level!

Miss Renaissance S'mores Bars

Miss Renaissance

Hi, Lovelies! I apologize for the lack of post yesterday. I was all caught up in getting ready for my trip to Canada – yep, I’m heading to Whistler, B.C. today for a super exciting Food Photography Workshop with Ace Camps & Aran Goyoaga of Cannelle et Vanille. I’m so excited, I can barely contain myself!

Anywayyy…before I leave for the Canadian Mountain Ranges, I’d like to introduce you to the best baked goodie since…well, I’m actually at a loss for words here. This stuff is dessert CRACK!! Dare I say, these S’mores Bars are even better than actual campfire-style S’mores. The cake-like graham crust is perfectly fluffy & crunchy at the same time, and the chocolate/marshmallow filling is gooey-rich-melt-in-your-mouth awesomeness! I used THIS recipe, but decided to torch the top of the marshmallow fluff layer with a kitchen torch (you can just use your oven’s broiler on high for this) for an extra caramelized flavor. I also chose to use two different kinds of chocolate – one milk and one dark with salted almonds – for some added depth and flavor range. YUM, that’s all I can say. These lasted about 4 seconds and they were gooooone (oops).
